David O’Leary and Nick Walker, two distinguished winemakers, dared to establish O’Leary Walker Wines in 2000. It’s been 22 years since they are in the business of making exceptional small batch, vegan-friendly wines from some of the best vineyard sites in South Australia.

They also craft a select number of cool climate wines with fruit sourced from the Adelaide Hills, many from the O’Leary family vineyards in Balhannah and Oakbank. These include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and our famous ‘Hurtle’ Sparkling.  With an intention to consistently celebrate the best of South Australia’s grape-growing regions, they consciously draw on fruit varieties that excel in these varied viticultural climates.

The year 2010 witnessed the opening of O’Leary Walker Winery and Cellar Door at Leasingham in the Clare Valley, South Australia. This space is exactly where the region produces most of their signature wines – particularly their award-winning Rieslings and Clare Valley Shiraz.

These wines are regionally distinct with fruit sourced from other premium grape growing districts in South Australia including the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale. The mind behind this is to draw on the grape varieties that excel in these quite different viticultural climates.

David and Nick have a strong fascination with the influence of oak and the variation between cooperages. They exactly what they want from their wines, that’s why O’Leary Walker Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are exclusively matured in French oak from famous oak houses like Siruge and Daraud and Jaugle.

With Shiraz and Cabernets varietals, the winery adopts the 100% French theme as the integration of fruit and oak elegance is conducive to their style of wine.

The desire to create exceptional wines and a common love for winemaking have allowed David O’Leary and Nick Walker to stick together over the years. As a winery, they are committed to producing fine South Australian wines with depth, character and regional personality. Each individual vineyard is carefully selected by the winemaking team to best reflect the unique qualities of the region, then handcrafted into quality wines using a combination of traditional and innovative techniques.
